2010 AWARD CATEGORIES
All ARTS SCHOOLS NETWORK awards are presented at ARTS SCHOOLS NETWORK Annual Conference Events. Recipients are featured in ARTS SCHOOLS NETWORK’s electronic newsletter and website www.artsschoolsnetwork.org.
Arts Innovation Award
Designed to recognize schools committed to taking innovative artistic risks, this award is presented to a school that has “broken the mold” in using the arts as a vehicle for teaching academics and/or making a positive difference in the lives of students and/or the community.
*Complimentary Conference registration.
Community Partnership Award
Intended to recognize arts schools and/or businesses that implement unique artistic and/or educational partnerships, this award is presented to a school or business that embraces the community by utilizing the arts and education as a vehicle for fostering artistic and educational understanding and community enhancement.
* An invitation to present at a future ARTS SCHOOLS NETWORK Conference.
*Complimentary Conference registration for the community partners (up to 2) participating in the conference presentation.
New and Emerging School Award
This award is presented to a promising young ARTS SCHOOLS NETWORK school in its first three years of development. Designed to recognize schools that exemplify solid planning and well defined goals, this award is given to a new school that demonstrates promise as an emerging school of excellence.
*Complimentary Conference registration for the Principal.
Outstanding Arts School Alum Achievement Award
This award is designed to honor outstanding alum that was enrolled in an ARTS SCHOOLS NETWORK school. Created for the purpose of fostering artistic and academic achievement in talented young people, this honor is bestowed annually upon one student whose commitment to excellence is demonstrated through outstanding accomplishment in the areas of citizenship, arts, and academics.
*Complimentary Conference registration for a representative from the student’s school
Outstanding Arts School
This award is presented to an ARTS SCHOOLS NETWORK member school with an outstanding record of overall excellence in the categories of faculty and student achievement, community recognition and involvement, arts and academics integration, curriculum innovations, continuing growth and development, and state and national recognition.
*Complimentary Conference registration for the Principal and one teacher.
Research Initiative: Individual Award
This award recognizes an individual who has completed research in arts education, either in an ARTS SCHOOLS NETWORK member school or about issues pertinent to NETWORK schools. An independent Research Subcommittee reviews the methodology, data collection, and findings. The research may be qualitative or quantitative. Supporting documents may include publications. Individual researchers may apply directly or be nominated by someone else.
*Invitation to present at a future ARTS SCHOOLS NETWORK conference.
*Complimentary conference registration fee.
Research Initiative: School Award
This award recognizes an ARTS SCHOOLS NETWORK member school that has fostered research in arts education, either relevant general research or specific research in the ARTS SCHOOLS NETWORK member school. The award honors a school for its commitment to ongoing research and to dissemination of knowledge in research in arts education that foster the goals of the ARTS SCHOOLS NETWORK and arts education. The research project either completed or in-progress could be a collaborative effort with a college, university, or other partner organization.
*Invitation to present at a future ARTS SCHOOLS NETWORK conference.
*Complimentary conference registration fee.
Teacher of the Year Award
Because the foundation of an excellent arts education lies in the talents and dedication of outstanding artist mentors and teachers, this annual award recognizes an ARTS SCHOOLS NETWORK teacher whose dedication, talent, and achievement are exemplary. At least three sealed letters of recommendation must be submitted in support of the nominee.

*Scholarship to Idyllwild Summer Teachers Institute (sponsored by Idyllwild)
The Jeffrey Lawrence Award
This award is granted to the head of an ARTS SCHOOLS NETWORK school who exemplifies an uncompromising commitment to excellence in arts education and arts training. Named in honor of the long-time head of the Professional Children’s School in New York, this is the most coveted award presented by the ARTS SCHOOLS NETWORK to an arts administrator.
