We are proud of our Special Series Art program, which requires a portfolio audition for entry. It is an intensive four-year conservatory program, designed to lead to careers in visual and media arts. As the Special Series Art students earn their high school diplomas, they experience a variety of art courses-- 12 art credits in total--the most art credits available to a secondary student in Toronto District School Board, the largest school district in Canada. Also unique to our program is that a student who wishes to return after grade 12, can enroll as a 'Portfolio' student and continue studies in art and other disciplines. Specialized, versatile and dedicated art teachers and visiting artists alike are members of the professional arts community. Visual & Media Arts cover a range of courses in fine arts, design, film/video/animation and photography. We help students prepare their portfolios for college or university fine arts program interviews. We give them the creative freedom to make their mark. Alumni are represented in galleries across the world and in diverse careers in art and design.

SEATTLE ACADEMY OF ARTS AND SCIENCES, WA
Seattle Academy of Arts and Sciences, located in Seattle's Capitol Hill Area and accredited by the Pacific Northwest Association of Independent Schools, is a rigorous college preparatory school whose mission is to prepare students for college and life.
From
its modest beginnings in 1983, the school took all 50 students on a
journey of academic and artistic exploration. Twenty five years later,
and now 600 students strong in grades 6-12, Seattle Academy has
developed a unique approach to education combining Academics, Arts,
Athletics, Outdoor Experiences, and daily use of Technology into what
has been termed, "A Culture of Performance," integrating creative
thinking, presentation skills, and an ability to take risks into all
aspects of the educational process.
At Seattle Academy, we continue to find innovative ways to
integrate the Arts into our school community as part of our culture of
performance. As part of our final exam process each trimester, the
entire school assembles for a performance by all Arts classes. Whether
performing at the end of trimester, developing award winning films,
presenting portfolios for review, or participating in our outstanding
vocal program, students are continually challenged to find innovative
ways to explore the range of opportunities at Seattle Academy.
Though students may focus on an Arts area, they are both required
and encouraged to explore all the Art forms resulting in skill sets
which are transferable to not only other art forms but toward academic
excellence as well. Whether development of a world premiere musical
based on the novel The Secret of Santa Vittoria or creating and testing
software to assist actors in memorizing lines, the Arts help us define
"The Culture of Performance."

I am extremely pleased to begin my tenure as the new Head of School at Walnut Hill, and to continue its long-standing traditions as a preparatory school founded in 1893 and its more recent incarnation as an arts high school for students gifted in ballet, creative writing, music, theater and visual arts. "The new state-of-the art Fine Arts Center is most certainly the resultof an architect who actually listened to our artist teachers but, too, it is just as certainly the result of the many sessions held atArts Schools Network conferences on how to "design your new building," on how to work and talkwith architects, and on effective fund-raising. The debt I owe to Arts Schools Networkis visible in every studio."
